Why Do You Need Regular Radiator Service?

Your radiator serves an extremely important function in your vehicle. Your engine runs at extremely hot temperatures, which can be dangerous and result in overheating. Your radiator's job is to pump coolant throughout the engine to control its temperature and prevent any seals and gaskets from breaking, which would cause major oil leaks and heat parts of the car to the point of melting.

Mike's Tire and Service Center provides professional radiator service for all kinds of makes and models of vehicles in the Greensboro, NC area.

How Can You Tell You Need Radiator Service?

You want to make sure that you schedule your vehicle for regular service and preventive maintenance, including checks on your radiator and switching out of coolants to make sure everything is running smoothly. But how can you tell if it's time for emergency radiator service?
  • Temperature Gauge Reading Hot: If the needle on the temperature gauge in your dashboard is constantly pointing towards "hot," there is most likely an issue. It could just be a problem with the thermostat or low on fluid levels, but it's best to schedule a service in case it's a problem with your radiator.
  • Radiator Rust or Discoloration: If your radiator or any of the hoses connected to your cooling system springs a leak, fluid can squirt out and land on hot engine parts. The fluid then bubbles off quickly, leaving spots of discoloration which begin to rust, causing your radiator and other engine components to break down.
  • Overheating: One of the most obvious signs of radiator trouble is if your vehicle actually begins to overheat. This is characterized by steam billowing out from beneath your hood.
  • Low Coolant Levels: Check your fluid levels periodically to ensure they are where they need to be. If you find low levels of coolant, get in touch with us so we can identify why it's happening.
  • Coolant Leak: Coolant is bright green, yellow, or sometimes pink. If you find coolant leaking from your vehicle, schedule a service immediately. Without proper coolant levels, your car risks overheating.
